    Role summary:

    The Lighting Manager is responsible for leading a team of Lighting Artists and Leads to create direct and reflecting lighting and shadows that meet creative direction and has shared accountability for the management and deliverables of the Lighting department. Research, develop, and implement techniques when necessary.

     

    Responsibilities

     

    Experience:

     

     
    • Experience managing and creating high volumes of digital prototyping imagery, ideally in the automobile or tech industry
    • Must have look development experience in the production of CG imagery having directed product lighting across multiple products
    • Client facing experience presenting concepts and working closely with creative teams
    • Experience as a supervising team member in determining various creative and technical solutions; skilled at creating efficiency improvements and providing artistic feedback to other team members of the production

    What' you'll do:

    • Production Suport:
    • Participate in project kick offs, review meetings, and other project based meetings as needed
    • Ensures all work produced is of the highest quality, responsible for QC’ing all the
    • work coming out of the department
    • Continually looks for ways to enhance productivity through process improvements Partners with ADs, Compositing Supervisor, and Lead Lighters in evaluating the creative and technical approach for assigned products
    • Designs, implements and critiques generic lighting to help facilitate the creative direction of the products
    • Quality and artistic supervision of lighting with input from the Art Director(s) to
    • Understand desired look as it relates to lighting
    • Team Development:
      Oversees performance management and career development for the team
    • Leads by example and participates in culture development and management
     

     

    Qualifications

     
    • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or Computer Graphics or equivalent

    • Relevant understanding of color theory, composition, lighting, aesthetics and how

      these apply to lighting and rendering in 3D

    • 6+ years production experience with experience in a leadership role on a CG

      imagery production or CG animated project

    • Strong working knowledge of various software platforms including Maya, Nuke,

      VRay or any other high end CG software

    • Look development and/or shader writing preferred

    • Ability to plan and execute complex 3D lighting scenes including working with layers

      and passes, and optimizing scenes and renders

    • Some photography experience a plus (understanding of composition, photography

      terms like depth of field, FOV, aperture, exposure, dynamic range)

    • Highly proficient skills in technical problem solving

    • Strong communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal)

    • Must be self-directed, detail oriented, creative thinker, problem solver with a desire

      to build a uniquely creative environments.
