    Role summary:

    The Business Affairs Manager will work closely with Retail Marketing and content related to Digital, Film, Media, Music and Legal to secure rights and clearances for all medias for use within marketing materials. Materials are used in global marketing communications including web, direct marketing, packaging, Internet and social media, events, retail, keynotes, and channel, The ideal candidate will be highly collaborative, and keep communication flowing efficiently and a Team player willing to work with staff at all levels. 

     

    Responsibilities

    • Managing a segment of the Business Affairs function within the U.S. Business Affairs team while leveraging the Geo hubs in coordinating international talents and contact negotiations. 
    • Working closely with Producers to understand marketing deliverables then assisting in the execution of including NDAs, casting process, music releases, and third part content clearance, negotiating third party licenses, including but not limited to Music licensing and contract negotiations. 
    • Working closely with each Department to execute licensing agreements with independent photographers and stock agencies, both within the US and worldwide. 
    • Working with third party entities to secure consent and clear rights when referencing their assets (names, locations, etc.) on contractual agreements. music licenses
    • Negotiating talents contracts, rates, licenses and contract extensions in conjunction with Legal
    • Engaging and collaborating with Marketing Communications Business Affairs 
    • Providing teams with senior-level advice and guide them on legal issues surrounding their projects in conjunction with Legal.
    • Helping to manage and escalate risk related conversations to the Legal team.
    • Communicating with the head of each department on best practices, processes and workflows.
    • Work closely with Marketing and Media to ensure we have deliverable specs and dates for trafficking and clearance.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum 10 years of prior experience in rights related positions in the advertising or the social media industry. 
    • Strong knowledge of copyright, trademark and licensing or advertising law with particular emphasis on digital content/technology initiatives. 
    • A solid understanding of intellectual property rights (a law degree is helpful but not required) ideally gained from experience working in a marketing, advertising and/or agency environment. 
    • Extensive up-to-date industry knowledge on licensing issues in a wide variety of media.
    • Exceptional organizational, prioritization and time management skills and a strong attention to detail. 
    • Exercise influence in a complex organization; exercising sound strategic, legal and business judgment in challenging situations; independent and proactive
    • Ability to partner with Legal in the application of legal standards in marketing, including: Experience drafting licensing agreements, Understanding of technology law as they pertain to IP issues in video, music, digital advertising and understanding of industry standards around distribution of traditional media. 
    • Self-motivated and self starter. Able to deal with rapid change in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment. 
    • Knowledge of all aspects of SAG/AFTRA, ACTRA and AFM Union and contracts.
